Make Turnover your B*tch

Need insights on your revolving door? Conduct exit interviews.

Exit interviews are only a waste of time if you waste the data. 😤

When done right, they’re one of the most underutilized leadership tools organizations have.

In founder-led and smaller businesses, every single departure hits hard, sometimes immediately. Exit feedback only delivers value when it is shared with leaders and used to reduce turnover, improve retention, and proactively address emerging issues

In larger organizations, one exit interview rarely tells the whole story. The real value is in the patterns. That’s why consistency matters. Leaders don’t need names or dramatic quotes, they need visibility into trends that point to culture, communication, leadership gaps, or systemic breakdowns.

And let’s be real: employees know when someone shared the “dirty secrets” on the way out. 🌶️ So, if you’re collecting exit feedback only to lock it in a vault, don’t bother doing exits at all.

That’s how trust erodes fast.

Net-net: Yes, do exit interviews. But only if you’re prepared to actually use the data to drive change. Otherwise, it’s just another HR checkbox.
